🏙️ Ormond Celebrates Its Past and Future

Mayor Jason Leslie delivered Ormond Beach’s State of the City address Oct. 13, highlighting community partnerships, infrastructure projects and the decisions shaping the city’s future.

The event also recognized civic contributions by AdventHealth Daytona Beach, AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach, Chick-fil-A Ormond Town Square, Bill Partington Sr., and Kevin and Chris Bowler of Daytona Beverages.

Under the theme “Honoring our past, defining our future,” Leslie emphasized preserving the qualities that make Ormond a welcoming home for residents and businesses.

🍲 Ormond Cook Heads to World Championships

Another Ormond resident is earning recognition—this time in the kitchen. Mary Edwards won the People’s Choice award in the national “Get Wild with Wild Rice” recipe contest, securing a place at the World Food Championships in Indianapolis.

Her winning wild chili verde soup combines pork, salsa verde, corn and wild rice, with toppings including bacon, cilantro and cheese.

Edwards will present a new wild rice and bacon-flavored recipe at the championships beginning Oct. 15. That’s one delicious way to represent Ormond Beach.

🏖️ Silver Beach Ramp Getting a Makeover

Meanwhile, Daytona Beach’s Silver Beach Avenue access ramp will close for renovations later this month, with reopening expected in early 2027.

Plans include rebuilding and reinforcing the concrete ramp, updating lighting and electrical systems, and adding family restrooms farther from the ramp’s bottom to reduce storm exposure.

New sidewalks, curbs and landscaping will round out the improvements. The county says residents have until Oct. 19 to use the access before construction closes it, so beachgoers should plan an alternate route afterward.

🏨 City Presses Plaza Resort Owner for Progress

Elsewhere on Daytona’s beachside, city officials are demanding a clearer path forward for the Plaza Resort, vacant since the 2022 hurricanes.

Owner Jonathan Abraham Eid says some exterior work is complete, but engineering reviews are holding up additional progress. A definitive construction plan remains outstanding.

At the next hearing, scheduled for Dec. 8, the special magistrate expects permits and a concrete work plan. Unit owners continue expressing frustration over ongoing payments and inaccessible units. No new fines were issued at Tuesday’s hearing.
