🎓 Champion Elementary's New Principal Focuses on Positivity

Champion Elementary is entering the new school year with new leadership and an optimistic outlook. Samantha Fabulich, formerly the school's assistant principal, has been named principal and says creating a positive, supportive culture will be her top priority. A lifelong Volusia County educator, Fabulich hopes to build on the school's recent improvement from a "C" to a "B" school grade while strengthening science, English language arts and attendance. Champion will also introduce a new STEM teacher to spark student interest in robotics, engineering and coding. Inspired by the school's mission to support every child, Fabulich and her staff have adopted a new motto: "Be the One," encouraging students and staff alike to lead with kindness, positivity and compassion.

🚧 Overnight I-95 Ramp Closures Planned in Ormond Beach

Motorists traveling through Ormond Beach should expect overnight detours beginning July 14 as the Florida Department of Transportation temporarily closes the southbound Interstate 95 exit ramp to U.S. 1. The closures will continue through July 16 and resume July 19 through the morning of July 21 while crews complete roadway work. Drivers traveling southbound on I-95 who need to reach U.S. 1 will be directed to Exit 278 and follow a posted detour before reconnecting with U.S. 1 farther south. FDOT advises motorists to allow extra travel time, reduce speeds through work zones and watch for changing traffic patterns. Construction schedules remain subject to change because of weather or other unforeseen conditions.

🌿 Update: Blue Spring Reservations Filling Quickly Before New Rules Take Effect

Blue Spring State Park's new reservation system is already generating strong demand ahead of its July 15 launch. Beginning that day, every day-use visitor—including annual passholdersmust reserve entry online before arriving at the park. The new system is designed to reduce long entrance lines and eliminate the uncertainty many visitors have experienced during busy summer weekends. Reservations are already filling quickly for both July and August, reflecting the park's continued popularity. Visitors say the advance booking process provides peace of mind by guaranteeing entry after long drives, rather than arriving only to find the park has reached capacity. Blue Spring joins several other Florida state parks that already require advance reservations.

🗳️ Vote-by-Mail Ballots Head to Volusia Voters

Mail-in ballots are beginning to arrive for Volusia County voters who requested them for the Aug. 18 Primary Election, and election officials are encouraging residents to review important deadlines now. The deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation is July 20, while requests for vote-by-mail ballots must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Aug. 6. Early voting will take place Aug. 8 through Aug. 15, and completed mail ballots must be received by the Supervisor of Elections Office no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day, Aug. 18. Officials also remind voters to carefully follow ballot instructions and fully fill in each selection to help ensure ballots are processed accurately. Voters can review their sample ballot, request or track a mail ballot, and find additional election information at volusiaelections.gov.
