✨ Ormond Beach Celebrates MLK’s Legacy with Prayer and Purpose

Ormond Beach came together on Jan. 19 for its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast, a spirited community gathering that blended faith, history, and service. Hosted at the South Ormond Neighborhood Center by the MLK Committee and the City of Ormond Beach, the event highlighted Dr. King’s enduring message of unity and justice.

Eulissa Boyd delivered an impassioned keynote titled “God is intentional about us,” emphasizing the divine purpose seen in Dr. King’s life and his civil rights mission. The morning also featured lively performances by Ormond Beach Elementary’s Elite Dance Team and Stomp Percussion group, along with stirring solos from local artists and a recitation of King’s “If I Had Sneezed” speech.

A standout moment was the presentation of the Trailblazer Award to Belinda Davis, a dedicated community leader and founder of the nonprofit Healthier. Wealthier. Wiser. Inc. Davis, whose family has deep roots in the city, was recognized for her ongoing efforts to connect residents with health and wellness resources.

With next year’s celebration already in the works, the committee hopes to draw even more people to what Chair Tina Carlyle called a “celebration of faith, legacy, togetherness and strength.”

🍗 Frozen Chicken Recall Hits Florida Stores

If frozen chicken’s on your dinner menu, double-check the label. Over 13,000 pounds of grilled chicken breast fillets from Suzanna’s Kitchen have been recalled due to a potential listeria contamination, with products distributed in seven states, including Florida.

The recall, announced by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service on Jan. 16, covers chicken produced on Oct. 14, 2025, with the lot code 60104 P1382 287 5 J14. The affected fillets were packaged in 10-pound cases and 5-pound bags. So far, no illnesses have been reported, but the warning is serious—listeria can pose significant health risks, especially to pregnant individuals, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems.

Listeria monocytogenes is a resilient bacteria that can survive even in refrigerated environments. Symptoms range from fever and muscle aches to severe neurological effects in vulnerable populations. The USDA recommends consumers toss the recalled chicken or return it to the store for a refund.

If you have questions, Suzanna's Kitchen’s customer service is available at [email protected], or you can reach out to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline.
