🏗️ Ormond Weighs Data Center Ban, Hospital Plans
Ormond Beach’s Planning Board has two notable development issues on its Sept. 10 agenda. Board members will review Comprehensive Plan amendments designed to formally prohibit data centers while continuing to allow smaller on-premise server rooms as accessory uses. The city already has an 18-month data center moratorium in place.
Separately, the board will consider allowing hospitals as a conditional use in the B-4 Central Business zoning district. The change was requested by Prevarian Companies, which is exploring relocating a Select Medical hospital and rehabilitation facility to the Office Depot building at 405 W. Granada Blvd. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

🚔 Gate Attendant Accused of Firing Warning Shots
An Ormond Beach gate attendant faces charges after police say he fired several warning shots near a man walking through a neighborhood Tuesday morning. Police identified the attendant as 59-year-old Gary Nagel, who is accused of confronting the boyfriend of a woman arrested earlier following an alleged DUI crash. According to police, the boyfriend was searching for her when Nagel told him to leave the neighborhood. Following an exchange of words, police allege Nagel pulled out a handgun and fired warning shots, then continued firing into the ground near the man as he ran away. No injuries were reported. Nagel faces charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in public or on residential property.

🚴 280 Miles in Memory of a Fallen Officer
For Ormond Beach resident Richard Massfeller, a 280-mile bicycle ride from New York City to Boston is about much more than reaching the finish line. The 74-year-old will participate in his ninth Tour de Force 9/11 Memorial Bike Ride beginning Sept. 10, honoring his childhood friend and mentor, Daytona Beach Police Officer Sam Edward Etheredge Jr., who was killed in the line of duty on Christmas Day in 1980. Massfeller will ride alongside former Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri during the four-day journey, which coincides with the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The annual ride honors fallen law enforcement officers and raises money to assist their families.

❤️ Family Holds Out Hope After Holly Hill Hit-and-Run
A Holly Hill family is rallying around their 22-year-old Aidan Kenton, who remains in critical condition after being seriously injured in an alleged hit-and-run in Holly Hill. According to his family and witnesses, Kenton was riding an electric dirt bike on Ridgewood Avenue near Fifth Street when he was struck Sunday night. Witnesses reported finding him unresponsive in the roadway at about 10 p.m. and said a white pickup truck left the scene. Kenton underwent emergency brain surgery following the crash. His sister, Arin Kenton, said the family is taking his recovery day by day while remaining hopeful. Witnesses are also urging anyone with information about the vehicle or driver to come forward.
