Volusia County Proposes Free Beach Parking for Residents, Higher Fees for Visitors

The Volusia County Council has proposed a plan to make beach parking free for residents while increasing fees for non-resident visitors. The proposal includes a paid parking system for off-beach lots and the use of license plate recognition technology. While residents currently paying for annual passes welcome the change, visitors face higher daily and annual fees, raising concerns about the potential impact on tourism. The plan, which could generate an estimated $13.4 million in net revenue, awaits a final council vote this summer, with implementation slated for October 1.
