PLDRC Forwards Ord. 2023-47 To County Council With Recommendation Of Approval
The PLDRC unanimously approved forwarding Ordinance 2023-47 to the Volusia County Council with recommendation that it approve the 9-month moratorium with an option for a 3-month extension.
The county has temporarily stopped the Belvedere Terminals project, a decision that has been met with relief from the community. Residents, led by Elena Krafft, are seeking to remove the heavy industrial zoning from the area.
Belvedere Terminals' proposed facility includes six large fuel tanks and was initially planned to have 16 tanks for various substances. The area in question, mostly on Hull Road, consists of five parcels totaling about 74 acres. The current zoning allows for a range of industrial uses, including the proposed fuel facility.
While Belvedere Terminals is open to alternative locations, they have stated that none of the considered options so far meet the project's requirements.
Female Pedestrian Killed In Early A.M.
Accident on Rt. 1
An early morning incident in Volusia County resulted in the tragic death of a pedestrian, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 1, just north of Destination Daytona.
Around 3 a.m., a northbound vehicle on U.S. Highway 1 collided with a woman walking in the same direction, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. The crash happened in the outer lane of the highway, where the pedestrian was walking outside of a marked crosswalk.
The unidentified pedestrian was declared dead at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle involved was unharmed.
Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
Holiday Schedule Changes for Garbage and Recycling Pickups Announced

Residents of the city and unincorporated Volusia County should note changes in garbage and recycling collection schedules due to the upcoming holiday season. On Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, and New Year's Day, Monday, January 1, there will be no garbage or recycling services.
In the city, the adjusted schedule will see Monday's collections shifted to Tuesday, December 26, and January 2. Similarly, Tuesday collections will occur on Wednesday, December 27, and January 3. Collections usually scheduled for Wednesday will take place on Saturday, December 30, and January 6.
For those residing in unincorporated Volusia County, the holiday schedule adjustment will follow a sequential shift. Collections for Monday will be moved to Tuesday, and this pattern will continue through the week, with Friday's collections occurring on Saturday.
