🧊 Record Low Temps Hit Ormond Beach and Beyond
Brace yourself, Ormond — it wasn’t just cold this weekend, it was record-breaking. Overnight Sunday, temperatures in Ormond Beach dipped to 26 degrees, and while that might not rattle northern states, it set off freeze warnings throughout Volusia and Flagler counties.
In Daytona Beach, the thermometer plunged to 23 degrees, officially breaking the previous February low set back in 1958. DeBary clocked in as the coldest with a frosty 22 degrees. Despite Sunday's sunny skies, the wind chill made the high of 44 feel more like 20 — with gusts reaching 25 mph.
Looking ahead to Monday, it won’t exactly be beach weather. Morning wind chills could dip as low as 18 degrees before a slow climb to 53 by the afternoon. A freeze warning and extreme cold advisory remain in place through Monday at 10 a.m., so cover those plants and keep the cocoa close.

🦪 Cold Waters, Fat Oysters: SharkBite Farm Keeps Shucking
While most of us were bundled up indoors, oyster farmers in New Smyrna Beach were wading into frigid waters — all in a day’s work. At SharkBite Oysters, founder Sam Walsh and his crew are harvesting their prized mollusks despite the chill, thanks in part to wetsuits and a healthy dose of determination.
“This is my dream job,” Walsh shared. “We just shiver along the way.” And it’s worth it: the colder temperatures actually make the oysters plumper and tastier, boosting their fat content. That’s good news for seafood lovers, and demand is heating up, even if the weather isn’t.
Oysters aren’t just tasty — they’re also hard-working members of the ecosystem, filtering water and supporting marine health. SharkBite’s team planted a million oysters last summer, and now they're sorting, processing, and delivering them all over Florida.
Their message? Support local, eat fresh, and spread love — no matter the weather.
