🗳️ Army Veteran Challenges Incumbent in Ormond Beach Race
A new candidate has entered the race for the Ormond Beach City Commission's Zone 3 seat. Army veteran Ted Rhodes filed to run on June 5 and will challenge incumbent Kristin Deaton in the Nov. 3 general election.
Rhodes moved to Ormond Beach from Arizona in 2022 and said concerns about development and growth motivated him to seek office. A 28-year Army veteran who served in Iraq and worked on several congressional campaigns, Rhodes says he brings leadership experience and a fresh perspective to local government.
His campaign priorities include managing growth, protecting clean water, improving wastewater infrastructure, and taking a closer look at city budgeting practices. Rhodes describes himself as a reform-minded candidate focused on representing residents rather than maintaining the status quo.

🚀 SpaceX Prepares for Sunrise Falcon 9 Launch
Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Florida's Space Coast Tuesday morning as SpaceX targets a sunrise launch of its Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Starfall Demo mission into low-Earth orbit.
The one-hour launch window opens at 6:43 a.m. from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. If weather or technical issues prevent liftoff, a backup opportunity is available Wednesday at the same time.
The mission marks the 29th flight for the Falcon 9 first-stage booster, a testament to SpaceX's continued emphasis on reusable rocket technology. After stage separation, the booster will attempt a landing aboard the droneship A Shortfall of Gravitas stationed in the Atlantic Ocean, adding another chapter to the company's busy launch schedule.

🏗️ Kona Construction Celebrates New Ormond Beach Headquarters
Wrapping up the week, Kona Construction Services officially celebrated the opening of its new Ormond Beach location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 18.
The company, owned by Mike Bowen and Rick Burt, recently relocated from East Granada Boulevard to a larger facility at 85 S. Washington St. The expanded space now includes a warehouse and a newly created design center, allowing the company to offer clients a more comprehensive remodeling experience.
Bowen said the additional space inspired the design center concept and has already helped attract new customers and subcontractors. Kona specializes in residential remodeling projects, including kitchens, bathrooms, full-home renovations, and structural modifications.
