⭐Rose Villa Closes, Ormond Mainstreet Marks 30, Local Duo Album Release, Former NFL Player Arrested

Issue #1033

Rose Villa Website

🌹Rose Villa Southern Table & Bar Closed Amid Wave of Employee Allegations

Rose Villa Southern Table & Bar, the restored historic restaurant on West Granada Boulevard, appears to have shut its doors this week following a surge of public allegations from current and former employees over unpaid wages and workplace conditions.

What employees are alleging

Over the past several days, multiple people identifying themselves as current or former Rose Villa staff took to community Facebook groups describing weeks without pay, along with claims that credit-card tips owed to servers and kitchen staff were not distributed. Workers also described operating conditions they called unsafe or substandard, including extended stretches without working air conditioning or hot water. Several described the workplace atmosphere as tense, alleging intimidation from management.

None of these claims have been independently verified, and no state or federal labor complaint has been publicly confirmed as of this writing. Withholding earned tips and failing to pay wages on a regular payday are illegal under both Florida and federal law, and several commenters urged affected workers to file complaints with the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division, which has a regional office in Orlando.

A restaurant with deep roots — and a divided reaction

Rose Villa has been a fixture of downtown Ormond Beach's dining scene, known for its restored building and upscale Southern menu. The allegations prompted a strong and visibly split response from the community. Many longtime patrons expressed shock and disappointment, some noting the restaurant's history of hosting charity events and community fundraisers. Others said the complaints echoed concerns about turnover and management they'd heard for years but hadn't seen aired publicly before.

Multiple people reported finding the restaurant's doors closed or boarded up in recent days, including some who said they arrived for reservations that had been accepted online. The restaurant's website and social media pages had not addressed the closure or the allegations as of this writing.

What we don't know

Ormond Local Pulse has not independently confirmed the specific allegations circulating online, several of which originated from anonymous accounts. We have not yet reached restaurant ownership for comment. As with any workplace dispute playing out on social media, it's worth noting these are one-sided accounts; Florida law also allows workers to file confidential wage complaints, so the absence of a public filing doesn't mean none has been made.

Readers wishing to assist the unpaid employees can donate to this GoFundMe page.

🏙️ Ormond MainStreet Marks 30 Years

Ormond MainStreet celebrated three decades of helping shape downtown Ormond Beach with a “Back to ’96” block party on Aug. 29 at Cassen Park and Bailey Riverbridge Gardens. Founded when some questioned whether a thriving downtown could coexist with busy Granada Boulevard, the organization embraced incremental improvements, from traffic changes and facade upgrades to festivals and business recruitment.

The anniversary celebration honored longtime businesses, civic partners and community leaders, including founder Bill Partington, who received the Founder’s Legacy Award. Executive Director Becky Parker credited local residents and business owners for the downtown’s evolution. The organization’s public-private partnership with the city has helped turn decades of small steps into a more vibrant commercial and community district.

🎶 Local Duo Releases Second Album

Ormond Beach acoustic duo Gilo & Royal Blue released their second album, “Music for Cat People,” on Sept. 1, offering 16 reimagined tracks shaped by acoustic folk, country fingerpicking and Brazilian samba influences.

The album was recorded live, with every track captured in a single take and without post-production editing or pitch correction. Selections include “Black Velvet,” “Padam Padam” and “Feed the Birds,” showcasing the duo’s combination of vocals and intricate acoustic guitar. Three songs received an early audience through performances on Sanford radio program “Live n Kickin.” The album is available on major streaming platforms as well as CD and vinyl. More information is available at:www.giloandroyalblue.com.

🚔 Former NFL Receiver Arrested in Daytona

Former NFL wide receiver Damoun Patterson was arrested in Daytona Beach in connection with multiple felony offenses, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Police said Patterson, who previously spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, faces charges that include grand theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief and armed burglary of a dwelling. Authorities said Patterson was booked following his arrest and is awaiting legal proceedings. Additional details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged offenses were not included in the provided report. The charges remain allegations as the case proceeds through the legal system.
