🐾 Small Change, Big Hearts
Three local siblings are proving that generosity doesn't have to come in large amounts. After spending the past year collecting loose change they found, the children used their savings to purchase pet food for the Volusia County Animal Shelter, continuing a tradition they've maintained for several years. During their visit, they also spent time with one of the shelter's dogs, seeing firsthand how donations help provide food, medical care and enrichment for animals awaiting forever homes. Their thoughtful gesture is a reminder that even small contributions can have a lasting impact, while highlighting the important role community donations and volunteers play in supporting the shelter throughout the year.

🗳️ Early Voting Opens Across Volusia County
Early voting begins Saturday, Aug. 8, giving Volusia County residents a full week to cast their ballots before the Aug. 18 primary election. Polling locations will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Aug. 15, with voters able to cast their ballot at any early voting site in the county. Local races include contests for Ormond Beach mayor and multiple city commission seats, Daytona Beach commission races and the Volusia County Council at-large seat. Election officials encourage residents to review their sample ballots before heading to the polls and remind voters that, while any early voting location may be used, Election Day voting must take place at each voter's assigned precinct.

🚸 School Zones Ready for Students' Return
With classrooms set to reopen next week, Volusia County crews are busy making sure school zone safety systems are ready for the first day of class. Road and Bridge traffic signal technicians have been inspecting, programming and testing school zone flashers, beacons and traffic signals to ensure they activate correctly for each school's schedule. The county will continue monitoring and maintaining the equipment throughout the school year as schedules change and repairs become necessary. Officials are also reminding motorists to slow down, eliminate distractions and remain alert for children walking, biking, riding scooters or traveling by e-bike as school traffic returns to area roadways.
