Ormond Beach police are investigating an act of vandalism after two construction signs at a development site were spray-painted with red swastikas and other markings. According to the incident report, the signs were damaged sometime between inspections, with estimated losses of about $200. The builder told officers he has no religious affiliation but wishes to pursue criminal charges. Authorities are treating the case as criminal mischief while continuing their investigation. 💻 Romance Scam Costs Victim More Than $100,000
A New Jersey man has been arrested after Volusia County investigators say he orchestrated an online romance scam that cost a Daytona Beach resident more than $100,000. According to authorities, the victim believed he was in a relationship with a woman he met through a dating app and was persuaded to send money for a series of fabricated emergencies, including medical expenses, travel issues and a fictitious inheritance overseas. Investigators tracked the payments through bank records and Cash App transactions, leading to the suspect's arrest. Law enforcement encourages anyone using online dating platforms to be cautious of requests for money, no matter how convincing the story may seem.
