🐶 Surfing Dogs Make a Splash for Shelter Animals

Some very talented four-legged surfers are leaving more than paw prints on Volusia County. Daytona Dog Beach Inc. presented a $9,000 donation to Volusia County Animal Services following the successful Volusia County debut of the Hang 8 Dog Surfing Extravaganza. The money will help support animals at the county shelter as they await permanent homes. The organization also contributed $1,752 for supplies at the county’s dog-friendly beach areas. And Hang 8 is paddling back out: Organizers announced the event will return May 30-31, 2027, behind the Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach, expanding to two days of surfing competition, entertainment and beachside fun.

📬 Florida Mail Ballots Still Set to Go Out

Florida election officials are moving ahead with preparations to mail ballots for the Nov. 3 general election despite an ongoing legal battle over new federal USPS requirements. The disputed rule, stemming from a presidential executive order, would require states to provide USPS with lists of mail-ballot recipients and use envelopes with unique barcodes. A federal judge has blocked implementation while the issue continues through the courts. For now, Florida’s schedule remains unchanged: ballots for domestic voters are due to be mailed between Sept. 24 and Oct. 1, and voters have until Oct. 22 to request one. Returned ballots generally must reach county election offices by 7 p.m. on Election Day.
