🚙🚙The Spring Daytona Turkey Run came and went last weekend at Daytona International Speedway, drawing nearly 1,000 cars and thousands of visitors to the infield — but the event's origin story is worth revisiting on a day about second chances. In 1973, Stuart Sarjeant showed up to the Ormond Beach Gaslight Parade with his 1923 Ford hot rod and was turned away at the gate. His four-year-old son cried. Sarjeant went home and decided to build his own show. The first Turkey Run ran in 1974 with 45 cars at a Howard Johnson hotel. By 1989 it had outgrown every venue it tried and landed a partnership at Daytona International Speedway, where the fall edition now draws over 100,000 attendees and ranks as the largest combined car show and swap meet in the country. Since that partnership began, the event has raised more than $21 million for local charities. Sarjeant, now 81, still personally delivers the checks. The 53rd Annual Turkey Run returns November 25–29. More at turkeyrun.com.

🌧️🌧️What's coming Monday and beyond. A strong cold front is tracking toward Central Florida, with rain chances climbing to 60–70% by Monday afternoon and becoming widespread after 2 p.m. The front is expected to stall across the region through midweek, keeping showers and storms in the picture through Thursday. Coastal totals of 2–4 inches are forecast, with some spots potentially seeing 5–7 inches. Rip current danger at the beaches will be high through Thursday or Friday. If low-lying areas near you flood easily, keep an eye on conditions early in the week. The silver lining: the drought could use the drink.
