🚤 Tomoka Outpost Owner Recognized for Marine Rescue
The Ormond Beach Police Department has honored Tomoka Outpost owner Capt. Scott Cornelius with a Certificate of Appreciation for his role in a dramatic rescue on the Tomoka River. When a jet ski carrying three people crashed into a tree in May, first responders found themselves without available marine resources to reach the victims. Cornelius immediately stepped in, using his own boat to transport emergency personnel as they searched the river and shoreline. Thanks to the collaborative effort, the injured riders were located and safely brought back to shore for medical treatment. A lifelong Ormond Beach resident, Cornelius was recognized for his quick thinking and willingness to help during a critical emergency.

🇺🇸 Artists Invited to Create OMAM Gulf War Memorial
The Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens is seeking artists to design a permanent public sculpture honoring veterans of the Gulf War, including those who served during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The landmark installation will become a centerpiece in the museum's gardens, celebrating courage, unity and national service while providing a place for reflection and education. Organizers envision a dynamic, human-centered work that incorporates patriotic elements and durable materials suitable for Florida's coastal climate. Professional artists from across the country are encouraged to apply by Aug. 31, with the selected design expected to be installed in Spring 2027. Applications and project details are available at https://opportunities.wearecreativewest.org/opportunity/17881/CAFE.

🚀 SpaceX Sends Globalstar Mission Into Orbit
SpaceX added another successful launch to its growing record Saturday evening with the liftoff of the Globalstar 2-R Launch 1 mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. A Falcon 9 rocket carrying the communications satellite mission lifted off from Space Launch Complex 40 during a 15-minute launch window, with the reusable first-stage booster completing its 14th flight. After stage separation, the booster returned safely to Landing Zone 40, continuing SpaceX's emphasis on reusable rocket technology. The mission is another example of the steady pace of launches from Florida's Space Coast, reinforcing the region's role as one of the world's leading centers for commercial spaceflight.
