🏗️ Tractor Supply Moves a Step Closer to Ormond Beach

Ormond Beach could soon add Tractor Supply to its retail lineup after the Planning Board unanimously backed an amended plan for Tomoka Commerce Park at 90 N. U.S. 1. The proposal includes a 21,901-square-foot Tractor Supply store along with six buildings totaling 78,009 square feet for warehouse, indoor boat and RV storage, and light industrial uses. Board members praised the project's design while emphasizing landscaping along what could become a more prominent gateway into the city. Some nearby residents, however, raised concerns about noise, traffic and flooding, while the owner of Ormond Farm Supply worries the national retailer could take business from established local stores.

💵 Working Families Feel the Financial Squeeze

While development moves forward, many local households are facing a more immediate challenge: making ends meet. A new United Way ALICE report found that 44% of households in Volusia and Flagler counties — more than 102,000 households — fell below the threshold needed to comfortably cover basic expenses in 2024. Housing is a major pressure point, with many working families spending substantial portions of their income on rent and utilities. United Way estimates a family of four needs about $82,175 annually in Flagler County and $80,484 in Volusia just to cover essentials. The organization is responding through food-security initiatives and its 24/7 211 resource hotline.
