A long recovery reached a happy milestone Friday when Volusia County's inaugural Veteran of the Year, Pierre Louis, received the keys to his newly rebuilt Daytona Beach home. The retired U.S. Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer 2 had seen his home severely damaged by Hurricane Ian in 2022. Reconstruction was completed through Volusia County's Transform386 Homeowner Recovery Program, which helps eligible storm-impacted homeowners with rehabilitation, reconstruction and other recovery options. Louis served more than 20 years in the Marines before continuing his service through volunteering, mentoring and helping fellow veterans navigate VA benefits. 🏈 Ormond Coach Puts Special Teams in Spotlight

From service to mentorship, Ormond Beach resident Dan Lundy has turned his own football experience into a mission to give kickers, punters and long snappers the coaching he once wished he had. The former University of Miami kicker launched 4th Down University in 2016 after years of teaching and coaching locally, including at Mainland High School. Today, Lundy combines detailed instruction with Trackman analytics, using radar technology to measure everything from ball velocity and launch angle to hang time and spin rate. His latest work includes training specialists from Bethune-Cookman University and other college and high school programs. For Lundy, the technology matters, but so does mentorship: His goal is to provide young specialists with preparation, guidance and confidence.

🚔 Two Hospitalized After Ormond Beach Stabbing

Two men were hospitalized following a Friday morning stabbing on Avenue A in Ormond Beach, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office. Deputies said an altercation resulted in one man suffering deep stab wounds to his arm and chest. The injured man told investigators he managed to gain control of the knife and stabbed the alleged attacker in return. Authorities issued a BOLO, and Daytona Beach police later located the suspect, identified as Edward O'Conner, 48. Investigators said the incident allegedly stemmed from an ongoing dispute involving O'Conner and his father. Both men were hospitalized in stable condition. Deputies said O'Conner faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and burglary with battery.
