🚨Ready Response Corps Seeks New Volunteers
One year after its launch, the Volusia Ready Response Corps (VRRC) has grown into a team of 78 trained volunteers prepared to assist residents during hurricanes, wildfires, extreme weather and other emergencies. Volunteers have completed more than 100 hours of certified training, including CPR, emergency shelter operations and psychological first aid, and have already supported county events and shelter operations. County officials say the first year focused on building a reliable network ready to respond whenever disaster strikes. Residents interested in joining are invited to attend a free orientation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Emergency Operations Center, 3825 Tiger Bay Road, Daytona Beach. The session will include this year's hurricane outlook and a program overview. Registration is not required. Additional information is available at www.volusia.gov/VRRC.

🎆 Ormond Beach Celebrates America's 250th Anniversary
Patriotic pride filled Rockefeller Gardens as thousands gathered for Ormond Beach's annual Independence Day celebration, commemorating the nation's 250th anniversary. Despite damp weather, families enjoyed food trucks, children's activities, patriotic music from the Daytona Beach Concert Band, and a spectacular fireworks display over the Halifax River. Visitors from near and far joined the festivities, including vacationers from Ukraine who returned for a second consecutive year. Before the fireworks began, city leaders reflected on the nation's history and encouraged continued civic engagement and community service. As always, the evening concluded with a stirring performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner," providing a memorable finish to one of the area's favorite Fourth of July traditions.

☀️ Five Sunscreen Myths Worth Leaving Behind
With Florida's summer heat in full swing, health experts are reminding residents that sunscreen is only one piece of protecting their skin. Skin cancer remains the nation's most commonly diagnosed cancer, yet it is also one of the most preventable. Experts recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, reapplying every two hours, and combining sunscreen with hats, protective clothing and shade—especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. They also caution that darker skin tones, cloudy skies and existing tans do not eliminate the risk of sun damage. Checking the daily UV Index and practicing smart sun habits can significantly reduce the risk of long-term skin damage while still allowing plenty of time outdoors.
