🎓 Volusia Schools Celebrate Second Straight "A" Rating

Volusia County Schools is celebrating another milestone after earning an "A" district grade from the Florida Department of Education for the second consecutive year. During a celebration at Mainland High School, district leaders highlighted record-setting achievements, including the highest district point total ever, improved school grades across the county, expanded Career and Technical Education programs and graduation rates approaching 99% at traditional high schools. Students also shared personal stories about how their schools helped them build confidence, leadership skills and career readiness. Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin said the achievement reflects the district's commitment to putting students first, while school leaders emphasized that continued investment in public education benefits the entire community.

❤️ Local Community Rallies for Colombia Earthquake Relief

Relief efforts are underway in Daytona Beach as local residents organize donations for communities in Colombia recovering from this week's devastating earthquake. Aguadulce Colombian Cafe has become a collection point for supplies, while volunteers are encouraging donations to help families affected by the disaster. Many participating residents have close family members still living in Colombia and say supporting the relief effort is one way to help from afar. Organizers are also encouraging financial contributions, which can be used to purchase heavy equipment and critical supplies within the country to aid rescue and recovery operations. The effort reflects the strong community ties that continue to unite Central Florida's Colombian population during times of crisis.

📷 License Plate Camera Company Announces New Privacy Measures

Flock Safety, the company behind many automated license plate reader cameras used by law enforcement agencies, has announced several new privacy and accountability measures. Among the changes, the company will reduce its recommended data retention period from 30 days to seven days and require additional justification for agencies seeking to keep information longer. Flock also plans to expand monitoring systems that identify unusual search activity by users. The announcement follows several high-profile cases involving misuse of the technology, including incidents in Central Florida, and comes as the cameras continue to generate debate over public safety, privacy and oversight. The new safeguards are expected to begin rolling out later this year.
