🚌 VoTran Route Changes Take Effect June 28

VoTran riders will see several service adjustments beginning June 28 as Volusia County continues to optimize its transit system. Transit staff will be available at major routes and transfer centers to help riders navigate the changes.

Updates include Route 3, 4, 11 and 15 moving to hourly service, while Route 5 outbound trips will depart five minutes later. A new Route 9 will connect Volusia Mall with western Daytona Beach, serving the Daytona Flea & Farmers Market, Tanger Outlets and the Florida Department of Health. Route 11 will discontinue service along Beach Street and Madison Avenue, with portions shifting to Route 9. Route 12 will receive minor schedule changes and will now travel on Beach Street in both directions, while service on portions of Ridgewood and Palmetto avenues will end. Minor schedule adjustments are also planned for Routes 18, 30 and 70, with additional changes to Routes 33, 70 and Sunday service expected later this fall.

For route maps and schedules, visit votran.org or call 386-761-7700.

🥫 Food Banks Brace for Storm Season

As hurricane season ramps up, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is asking residents to think beyond stocking their own supplies and consider helping neighbors facing food insecurity.

President and CEO Derrick Chubbs says food banks are entering the summer with fewer donated resources while facing higher operating costs from fuel, transportation and food prices. At the same time, many families continue struggling with rising grocery bills and the financial impacts of severe weather.

Second Harvest distributes enough food for approximately 300,000 meals each day across seven Central Florida counties. The organization is encouraging residents to volunteer, donate or participate in virtual food drives before hurricane season reaches its peak, helping ensure food assistance remains available when communities need it most.

🚦 Cutting Through Parking Lots Can Cost You

Trying to bypass a traffic light by driving through a nearby parking lot may save a few seconds, but it could also cost you money and points on your driver's license.

Florida law specifically prohibits drivers from leaving one roadway and using a parking lot or private property to avoid obeying an official traffic control device. Violating the law is considered a moving violation.

Drivers caught cutting through parking lots can face a $158 fine, plus additional court costs and surcharges, along with three points added to their driving record. Those points can increase insurance premiums and, if accumulated over time, may even lead to a license suspension.

Sometimes the fastest route really is waiting for the light to change.
