✈️ Airport Adds Fun for Little Flyers
Waiting for a flight just got more interesting for Daytona Beach International Airport’s youngest passengers. Through a partnership with the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties, the airport has installed two aviation-themed activity stations near Gate 5.
An activity cube inside the Mother’s Room welcomes children as young as 6 months, while an airplane activity wall in the hallway outside is geared toward ages 18 months to 5 years.
Both encourage creativity, sensory exploration and fine motor skills, with a little aviation curiosity mixed in. The additions build on the airport’s family-friendly amenities, giving parents another way to keep small hands busy before boarding.

🐾 DAR Honors Animal Welfare Advocate
The Captain James Ormond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored Debbie Darino with its Community Service Award on Sept. 28.
Darino founded The Ponce Animal Foundation after the killing of a 9-month-old Labrador puppy in 2017. Her organization advocates for animals affected by abuse, homelessness, disasters and other hardships.
The chapter recognized her volunteer work and advocacy for stronger protections against animal cruelty. The award celebrates outstanding unpaid service to the community.
During the meeting, the chapter also inducted five new members and welcomed two transfers, adding more helping hands to its ranks.

🚑 Volusia EMS Launches Field Blood Transfusions
Volusia County EMS has introduced a new tool for emergencies when every minute matters: whole blood transfusions before patients reach the hospital.
The program allows EMS crews throughout the county to administer blood to qualifying trauma patients suffering severe blood loss. Starting treatment in the field can reduce the delay between an injury and hospital care.
Crews completed simulation-based training to identify eligible patients, prepare blood products and administer transfusions. Halifax Health supports handling and logistics, while OneBlood supplies the blood products through agreements approved by the County Council.
Residents can support the effort by donating blood if eligible, helping maintain the supply that makes this new emergency-care capability possible.
