🍽️ Daytona Beach Hooters Closes

After nearly 40 years on International Speedway Boulevard, Daytona Beach’s Hooters has permanently closed, leaving Volusia County without an operating location.

The restaurant across from Daytona International Speedway was a longtime fixture for race fans and visitors. Its closure follows other shutdowns in Jacksonville and Panama City Beach, along with broader financial troubles for the chain.

Hooters closed 40 U.S. locations in June 2024, and Hooters of America filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2025.

The Daytona restaurant’s Facebook page was still promoting October specials earlier this week. According to the report, local customers now face a drive to Orlando to visit the nearest remaining location.

🚤 High Water Closes Mariner’s Cove Ramp

For Ormond boaters planning a St. Johns River outing, Volusia County has temporarily closed the boat ramp at Mariner’s Cove Park in Enterprise.

Recent rainfall has raised river levels, submerging portions of the ramp and nearby areas. County officials say the high water makes ramp edges and other features difficult to see, creating unsafe conditions for launching or retrieving boats.

The ramp, located at 1199 Enterprise-Osteen Road, will reopen when water levels recede enough for safe use. No reopening date was announced.

Other county boat ramps remain alternatives for getting on the water. Find locations through the county’s boat ramp directory before choosing another launch site.

🚔 Deputies Return to Holly Hill Drug House

Volusia deputies searched a Holly Hill home Thursday less than a month after another raid at the same address.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, investigators executing a search warrant at 819 State Ave. found trafficking quantities of fentanyl and cocaine. Deputies allege Anthony Ridley, 63, tried to flush drugs down a toilet when confronted by the SWAT team.

Ridley and two others were arrested. His charges include fentanyl and cocaine trafficking, evidence tampering, drug equipment offenses and maintaining a structure for drug sales.

Authorities say Ridley resumed drug activity after his earlier release from jail. He is now being held without bond. The charges remain allegations.

🏛️ Museum Grant Sparks Donations Debate

At Volusia County Council, a $2.5 million ECHO grant for The Brown museum prompted a heated Oct. 6 debate over campaign donations and public trust.

Chair Jeff Brower asked whether contributions from Hyatt Brown, his family and affiliated entities required recipient council members to abstain. County Attorney Michael Dyer said campaign contributions alone do not create a voting conflict, citing Commission on Ethics guidance.

Several council members criticized Brower’s remarks as questioning their integrity. Brower defended raising concerns he said residents had shared.

The council approved the grant for an event lawn, native landscaping, walking paths and outdoor learning and sculpture spaces. The disagreement centered on perceived influence; the attorney did not identify a prohibited conflict.
