🚨 Another Scam To Be Aware Of
In public safety news, an elderly New Smyrna Beach resident’s call to police helped investigators arrest an Orlando man accused of trying to defraud her.
Police say Marcus Ristie, 27, initially posed as her son, claiming he needed $9,800 to leave jail after a fatal crash. Later calls allegedly involved impersonating an attorney and a pretrial intervention representative.
Investigators worked with the resident to track an envelope collected by an unwitting Uber driver to Orlando, where Ristie allegedly received it. Orlando police arrested him Thursday after investigators obtained a warrant.
Ristie was charged with organized scheme to defraud and booked into Orange County jail on an out-of-county warrant. His bond was set at $20,000.
