⛽ Florida Gas Prices Cruise Past $4

Florida drivers are feeling another pinch at the pump, with the statewide average for regular gasoline reaching $4.13 per gallon Monday — its first move above $4 since June 1.

Volusia and Flagler counties are running slightly higher, averaging $4.16 and $4.19, respectively. Bargain hunters can still shave off a few cents, with recently reported prices below $4 at select Daytona Beach and Port Orange stations.

AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins attributed the latest increase partly to escalating tensions in the Middle East, which have helped push crude oil back above $100 per barrel. Florida gas prices have risen more than 20 cents in two weeks and are now over a dollar higher than a year ago, with additional upward pressure possible if oil remains elevated.

🏥 Healthcare Partners Prepare for the Unexpected

Volusia County Emergency Management recently brought healthcare professionals and community partners together for a Healthcare Summit focused on strengthening coordination before the next emergency arrives.

Participants exchanged lessons from previous disasters and discussed planning for challenges such as evacuations, sheltering in place, transportation, staffing, communications, continuity of care and extended power outages. Those preparations are particularly important for facilities serving residents who may need additional assistance during a crisis.

The summit builds on work that happens throughout the year. Emergency Management reviews Comprehensive Emergency Management Plans submitted by certain healthcare facilities under state requirements and works directly with providers to understand their capabilities. Bringing those partners together before disaster strikes helps establish relationships and procedures that can prove invaluable when normal operations are disrupted.

🚀 Starship Sets Its Sights on Orbit

SpaceX is preparing to take Starship farther than it has ever gone, announcing Sept. 22 as the target date for the spacecraft’s first orbital flight around Earth.

The company revealed the date alongside a new promotional video. According to SpaceX, previous Starship flight tests have followed suborbital trajectories as part of an approach designed to maximize public safety. The upcoming mission is planned to mark the spacecraft’s first attempt to enter Earth orbit.

Starship is SpaceX’s massive, fully reusable transportation system, designed for missions carrying crew and cargo to Earth orbit and eventually destinations including the Moon and Mars.

If the Sept. 22 target holds, the flight will represent a major new test for a vehicle SpaceX sees as central to its long-term plans for space exploration.
