Kistemaker Business Law Group in Ormond Beach is welcoming back one of its summer interns — this time as an employee.

University of Miami student Jillian Norko, who participated in the firm’s Summer Internship program this year, will join the practice as a legal assistant this fall. Norko is majoring in political science and communications, minoring in sports administration and following a pre-law track.

She plans to graduate a year early and hopes to eventually pursue a career in sports and entertainment law. Norko has also earned a 4.0 President’s Honor Roll distinction during the past two semesters.

Managing attorney Erum Kistemaker said the firm was pleased to welcome another former intern back. The firm’s internship program is now in its 14th year.

⛳ River Bend Draws Two Purchase Inquiries

Ormond Beach has received two letters of intent concerning the shuttered 172-acre River Bend Golf Course, including a $4 million offer from Miami-based Titan Development Partners and another inquiry from financial advisor and PGA professional Gerry James.

There’s one substantial catch: The property isn’t presently for sale.

River Bend sits on federally obligated Ormond Beach Municipal Airport land, and city officials say federal approval would be required before a sale could occur. The Federal Aviation Administration is also requiring an updated airport master plan before a new operator could reopen the golf course.

That update is expected to examine the airport’s long-term aeronautical needs and could take 12-18 months to complete. If federal officials eventually allow a sale, the city says it would solicit proposals under applicable deed restrictions and federal requirements.

🏐 Falcons Serve Up Program History

Daytona State College’s women’s volleyball team is off to the best start in program history, opening the season 14-1 after putting together a 13-match winning streak in non-conference play.

The Falcons climbed as high as No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings before their first loss dropped them to No. 3. But players say they aren’t spending much time watching the polls.

Coach Laura Booker Anderson, now in her seventh season as head coach, credits the team’s success to talent as well as a culture emphasizing consistency, discipline and leadership. During her tenure, Daytona State has recorded five Top 25 finishes and reached the national tournament.

With history already made, the Falcons now hope their record-setting start can carry them deep into postseason competition.

🚔 New Details Emerge in Daytona College Attack

Daytona College owners Nancy and Roger Bradley have been identified as the couple critically injured in Sunday’s attack outside their Ormond Beach school.

According to court records, Michael Hightower allegedly struck Nancy Bradley with a vehicle before beating both victims. Investigators say Hightower later told officers he had been stealing from the college and knew police were being called. He was arrested and taken to AdventHealth Daytona Beach for evaluation.

At the hospital, authorities allege Hightower fought with Officer Austin Long during a handcuff change, grabbed Long’s firearm and fired one shot, striking the officer in the leg. Long has since been released from the hospital and is recovering.

The Bradleys remained in very critical condition. Hightower is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 13.
