🌳 Lighthouse Point Park Honors James Hunt
Lighthouse Point Park has been renamed James Milton Hunt Lighthouse Point Park, honoring the environmental advocate who helped protect the Ponce Inlet property from development.
Hunt, a Daytona Beach native and Seabreeze High graduate, helped lead the early-1980s “Don’t Condo Our Lighthouse” campaign when housing developments threatened the site.
His daughter initiated the renaming effort, which received county, town and state approval. Open since 1986, the park remains a place for beachgoing, fishing and enjoying nature—a lasting result of community determination.

🅿️ Is $20 Parking Killing Business?
Meanwhile, some Daytona Beach merchants say a $20 daily parking charge discourages customers making quick stops.
Rustic Dough Works owner David Ur reports customers receiving $30 tickets while collecting food. He and other owners want a 15- or 30-minute grace period.
County residents can register for no-cost beach parking permits, but visitors still face the daily fee at applicable locations.
Council members discussed designated pickup parking, and staff are exploring options. No change has been announced, so customers should continue checking posted parking requirements.

🔎 County Launches Domestic Abuse Database
In public safety news, Volusia County has launched a searchable database of individuals convicted of qualifying domestic abuse or dating violence offenses locally.
The resource brings together existing Clerk of Court records, including names, birth dates, qualifying booking photographs and case information. It regularly synchronizes with the Clerk’s system.
Residents can access it at volusia.gov/domesticabusers.
The county describes the database as a starting point and encourages users to consult court and law enforcement records for additional case details.
