✅✅Partington Retains House Seat; Bright and Bobak Win Ormond Beach Commission Races

Tuesday’s election brought change to Ormond Beach’s City Commission, a victory for Bill Partington and strong Volusia County support for two property-tax amendments, according to unofficial results.

Ormond Beach resident Bill Partington retained his District 28 seat in the Florida House, receiving 55.73% of the vote. The Republican collected 40,999 votes, ahead of Democrat Sammy Jackson’s 31,209 and Libertarian Joe Hannoush’s 1,360.

In the Volusia County Council at-large race, Nancy Miller defeated Mike Poniatowski, earning 56.74% support. Miller received 117,309 votes to Poniatowski’s 89,446—a margin of nearly 28,000 votes.

Ormond Beach voters chose challengers in both contested commission races. Jennifer Bright defeated incumbent Travis Sargent in Zone 2, receiving 2,259 votes, or 53.04%, to Sargent’s 2,000. In Zone 4, Amber Bobak defeated incumbent Harold Briley, collecting 2,329 votes, or 54.96%, to Briley’s 1,909. The results give two new voices a role in decisions on growth, infrastructure and city spending.

Tax relief also found substantial support locally. Amendment 2, exempting qualifying agricultural equipment and other tangible personal property from taxation, received 60.25% approval in Volusia County. Amendment 3, expanding the homestead exemption, earned 61.99% support. Those figures reflect Volusia’s vote; passage of either constitutional amendment requires at least 60% approval statewide.

The proposed homestead change would increase the exemption for qualifying homeowners to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028 for taxes excluding school districts.

County turnout stood at approximately 59%, with 236,579 ballots cast. Results remain unofficial pending certification.

🏫 Community Leaders Step Into Principals’ Shoes

Sixty-eight business and community leaders got a firsthand look at running Volusia County schools during the FUTURES Foundation’s sixth annual Principal for a Day program on Oct. 27.

Participants spent the morning learning about school leadership, classroom successes and daily challenges before gathering for a luncheon. Elizabeth H. Kargar, of Venture Development Realty, visited Pathways Elementary, describing principals as school CEOs balancing extensive responsibilities.

At Tomoka Elementary, Halifax Health executive Kelly Kwiatek praised Principal Kelly Moore and the staff’s thoughtful approach to supporting students and families.

The foundation hopes these experiences encourage lasting partnerships, with participants contributing their time, expertise and resources while advocating for local public schools.

🎭 “Fiddler on the Roof” Takes the Ormond Stage

From school hallways to the spotlight, Halifax Repertory Theatre brings “Fiddler on the Roof” to the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center for six performances Nov. 6–15.

The production features more than 30 actors, a live 10-piece orchestra and students from HRT’s Elite Arts Academy. Local attorney and HRT co-founder Jack Cook stars as Tevye, alongside Actors’ Equity guest artist Jennifer McGill as Golde. Brett Ricci makes his directorial debut.

Performances begin at 7 p.m. Nov. 6, 7, 13 and 14, and 2 p.m. Nov. 8 and 15, at 399 N. U.S. Highway 1.

Tickets are $35, available through the Performing Arts Center’s ticket website.

🏠 Report Projects $1.41 Billion Volusia Tax Impact

Turning to local finances, a Florida TaxWatch analysis cited by ClickOrlando projects that Amendment 3 could reduce property tax revenue across Volusia County by approximately $1.41 billion over five years, the tenth-largest county total statewide.

The proposal would increase qualifying longtime Florida homeowners’ exemptions from non-school property taxes to $150,000 of assessed value in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, followed by inflation adjustments. New residents would face a five-year waiting period for the higher exemption.

It would also lower the annual assessment growth cap for non-homestead properties from 10% to 5%.

The proposal offers homeowner tax relief, while critics warn of pressure on local services. Passage requires 60% voter approval.
