🏗️ Hull Road Properties Seek New Land Use
Ormond Beach’s Planning Board will review a proposed land use change Nov. 12 for three Halifax Paving properties totaling 52 acres at 860 and 870 Hull Road and 1399 Hull Trail.
The administrative request would replace the parcels’ county Industrial designation with the city’s Light Industrial/Utilities designation following their 2023 annexation. Halifax Paving also seeks to build a concrete mixing plant.
The issue follows the city’s reversal of a heavy industrial zoning district amid concerns about the nearby Belvedere Terminals fuel farm proposal. Board members will also consider changes to Planned Industrial Development rules, including allowing single-parcel developments and revising requirements for uses and setbacks. The proposals would provide greater flexibility for industrial development.

✈️ Pilot Rescued After New Smyrna Beach Crash
Elsewhere in Volusia County, a pilot was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center after a single-engine plane crashed behind 3010 Turnbull Bay Road in New Smyrna Beach on Nov. 4.
The airport’s air traffic control tower reported the crash at approximately 2:23 p.m. Ground crews initially struggled to locate the wreckage before a sheriff’s helicopter spotted it.
Firefighters extricated the pilot and provided emergency treatment before the flight to Daytona Beach. Deputies said the pilot was conscious and communicating when rescuers reached him. He was the aircraft’s only occupant.
Volusia County Fire Rescue, New Smyrna Beach firefighters and sheriff’s deputies responded. Authorities said the crash remains under investigation.

💧 Ormond Beach Begins Drinking Water Maintenance
Back in Ormond Beach, residents may notice a slight change in their tap water’s taste or smell during scheduled maintenance that began Monday, Nov. 2.
The city is switching to free chlorine, a stronger disinfectant, as part of the maintenance process. According to a notice on the city website, the drinking water will remain safe and meet the city’s quality standards throughout the change.
The alternate disinfectant may produce a noticeable difference in taste and odor, but the city says that does not affect the water’s safety.
Residents seeking more information about the maintenance or changes to their water can contact Ormond Beach Public Works at 386-610-0700.

⚠️ Toddler Snack Bars Recalled Over Choking Hazard
In consumer safety news, Once Upon a Farm is recalling all flavors of its Tractor Wheels Organic Soft-Baked Bars nationwide because of a choking hazard.
According to the FDA, several toddlers have choked while eating the bars. The product can form a dry, sticky mass when chewed that may be difficult to dislodge, even using standard choking rescue techniques.
The recall includes all flavors, lot codes and expiration dates. The bars were sold at retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Target and Costco.
Families should not serve the affected bars. Check the FDA’s advisory for additional product information and instructions.
