🥜 Paradise Pointe Packs the Pantry

Paradise Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care turned a simple summer food drive into a community-wide effort, collecting 550 jars of peanut butter for Provision Packs. The Ormond Beach nonprofit provides meals to students throughout Volusia and Flagler counties.

The campaign grew in August with Paradise Pointe’s “Fill the Pantry & Fill the Heart” networking event, which encouraged referral partners and friends to join residents, families and staff in donating. The contribution comes as Provision Packs is serving hundreds of children across 20 schools. During the first three weeks of the school year alone, the nonprofit provided nearly 28,000 meals. Paradise Pointe CEO Darlinda Copeland called the response a meaningful example of the community coming together to support local children.

💍 Eleven Couples Say “I Do” for Free

Wedding bells were working overtime at Tomoka Christian Church on Sept. 18, when 11 couples exchanged vows during five hours of free ceremonies. More than 60 volunteers helped make the church’s 11th annual free wedding day possible, covering everything from cakes and flowers to photography, music and reception spaces.

Pastor Joe Putting started the tradition to ensure cost wouldn’t stand in the way of couples wanting to marry, and the church has now celebrated more than 100 weddings through the program. Each couple received a personalized experience, complete with a decorated ceremony space, live musicians, cake and a first dance. Behind the scenes, volunteers quickly reset the spaces between ceremonies, giving every couple their own picture-perfect moment.

💰 Volusia County Adopts Rollback Budget

Volusia County Council adopted its fiscal year 2026-27 budget on Sept. 22, setting the General Fund property tax rate at the full rollback rate of 3.1007 mills. At that rate, the county expects to collect roughly the same General Fund property tax revenue as the previous year, excluding new construction.

The adopted budget totals approximately $1.79 billion on a gross basis. After removing reserves, interfund transfers and certain internally double-counted transactions, the county puts net spending at about $1.06 billion. Funding continues for the Sheriff’s Office, Fire Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, roads, libraries, beaches, transit, environmental programs, courts and other county functions. All other county millage rates will remain at or below their current-year levels. The new budget takes effect Oct. 1.

Cat 6 Purricane Rescue Partners is a 501(c)3 non-profit cat rescue organization located in beautiful Ormond Beach! We are blessed to have the opportunity to put 7 of our wonderful kittens and 2 beautiful cats up for adoption! Our kittens have been raised in foster homes and have been given so much love and attention and in return have grown to be amazingly friendly loving kittens.

We have the 4 siblings, the "M Purricane" group, Morris, MOO, Millie and Mary, and the dynamic brother- sister duo LUCA and LUNA and our little solo buy TJ, short for Tuxi Junior. We also have 2 of the the most amazing adult cats. SKITTLES is a 1 year old Tortie girl and PUMPKIN is a 1 year old long haired dark orange boy.
