🤝 Root Launches Employee-Informed Giving Fund

Root Company and the Root Family Foundation have partnered with the Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties to establish the Root Company Community Fund.

The fund gives employees a voice in recommending grants to local charities while continuing the family business’s decades of community support.

Organizers say the partnership combines Root’s local ties with the foundation’s knowledge of community needs, helping direct charitable giving where it can make a difference.

📚 Ormond Author Earns Five-Star Review

An Ormond Beach author is bringing a little late-’80s nostalgia to readers.

Alexander L. George’s coming-of-age novel, “Once Upon a Mall,” received a five-star review from Readers’ Favorite. Set in Pennsylvania, the story follows young friendships, romance and growing up against the backdrop of the Berkshire Mall.

Reviewer Steve Leshin praised George’s dialogue, character development and ability to capture his characters’ emotions.

☕ Women Help Neighboring Businesses Thrive

At Ormond Beach Mall, supporting small businesses starts next door.

Kila Wenkart, owner of Happy Co. Surf & Coffee, says new shops and shared events are turning the Ormond-by-the-Sea plaza into a destination.

Salt Sculpt Fitness Studio owner Izzy Schindler recommends neighboring shops—and visits them herself, including women-owned Salty Dogs DIY Dog Wash.

At MadeNew thrift store, volunteer coordinator Rachel DeSouza and manager RaeAnna Lohse are building customer connections and joining plaza events. Together, these women are helping the shopping center feel like a community.

✈️ Allow Extra Airport Time Today

Flying from Daytona Beach International Airport this afternoon and evenig? President Trump’s visit could bring minor delays, particularly from 6–9 p.m.

The airport says scheduled airline service can continue under temporary flight restrictions, but brief ground freezes will accompany Air Force One’s arrival and departure.

Midway Avenue will close between South Williamson Boulevard and Catalina Drive; the airport’s main entrance will remain open.

Travelers should allow extra time and check flight updates with their airline.
