Daytona International Speedway
🏁 Help Design Daytona 500’s Infield
Daytona International Speedway is letting fans choose the infield grass design for the 2027 Daytona 500.
Three options are competing: “Star-Spangled Skies,” featuring the Air Force Thunderbirds; “Racing in Motion,” combining checkered flags and stars; and “World Center of Racing,” showcasing the Speedway’s famous nickname.
Voting runs through Wednesday, Oct. 28, on the Speedway’s official website. The winning artwork will greet fans and television viewers during the 69th running of the race on Feb. 21, 2027.

🌳 Volusia Forever Reviews Properties Friday
Meanwhile, the Volusia Forever Advisory Committee meets Friday, Oct. 23, at 9 a.m. to evaluate properties submitted for its latest application cycle.
Members will check whether properties meet program criteria, then rank eligible applications.
The meeting takes place in County Council Chambers at the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand. Residents can also watch at volusia.gov/forever-advisory.
For information, contact Nick Dunnam at 386-943-7081, extension 13459.

🚔 State Funding Considered for Sheriff’s HQ
Also in county business, officials were scheduled to consider accepting $1.5 million in state funding for the sheriff’s new headquarters at their Oct. 20 meeting.
The money would replace an equivalent county allocation, freeing those local dollars for future building projects.
The planned facility would consolidate departments, improve public access and strengthen emergency coordination. Its higher-ground location would reduce flood exposure and provide a safer backup site for emergency dispatch operations.
The supplied report was published before the vote and does not include its outcome.

⚽ Adult Pickup Soccer Gains Ground
Back in Ormond Beach, residents are working with the city to create an adult pickup soccer program.
Organizers want casual games on available fields, rather than a formal league. Play stopped after the city enforced permit requirements, prompting discussions about scheduling, registration and fees.
Following an Oct. 14 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board discussion, organizer Gustavo Bom Conselho said the program’s basics appeared close to taking shape.
A supporting petition has gathered 248 signatures, reflecting interest in more opportunities for adults to stay active and meet neighbors.
